2016 USA Trip: "Highschool Homecoming Week"

We have arrived in Conrad, Iowa during "Homecoming" week.  It's a celebration of winter sports (mostly football, but also Cross Country running and cheerleading.)  There's a king and queen to be chosen, a parade, a dance, a running a football between the cities of the two competing football teams (like the running of the Olympic torch), and a high school football game.

In taking a walk down the street, there's evidence that the high school had  been "toilet papered"...as well as some houses. (There's strips of soggy toilet tissue and empty tubes in the grass and along the street.)  Every day this week, the high school students have dressed up in various ways.  Drew has had a "come as a tourist" day, a "decade" day (as in the 60's, 70's, 80's), etc.

Last night, there was a dinner at the school parking lot, followed by a parade consisting of the various sports teams riding on fire engines and the homecoming court riding in fancy cars.  Drew was on the back of a fire engine with his Cross Country team.  (Later, there was an assembly where the new King and Queen of homecoming was announced, but we went home.)

The dinner was a "walking taco."  This is like a taco salad in a taco chip bag.  The chip bag is slit open, then you add lettuce, olives, meat, cheese, sour cream, and salsa.
