Day 64: AAA to the rescue...plus Jan!

We were just trying to visit Grandpa...

We smelled a burny smell, the air con shut down, and the car overheated. We tried out our NZ AA card (which is suppose to be AAA here) and it worked, just like they said!

It was a very hot day, so Dan pulled under an overpass...very noisy when you're trying to explain things on the phone. We waited...and waited. Finally, a smiley old truck driver pulled up. He had retired from being a professional truck driver and now just did part-time with AAA. We found out about his wife's gambling problem and his truck that he just sold. He dropped us off at the car place...whose electricity was down and they didn't have time to fix it anyway.

The man said that they didn't give out loaner cars, but he'd call the car rental place for us. No cars available. He called another place. No cars available. He called a third place. Same story...so we called Jan. (Then we called the neighbor of Grandpa who has a key to his house, and asked her to place unplug the crockpot!)

Then the storm came. It was no longer as hot. It was thunder, lightning, and rainy. We finally went inside a building to wait. Then Jan came (like a knight on a white horse)...

AND THEN we saw Grandpa.

Keep praying. He was really tired, but he had spent time both in physical therapy and occupational therapy. Sleep well, Grandpa!
