On the way to Barb and Roger's house, we took the Blue Ridge Parkway through the Smokies. While we only drove on the beginning part of it, we enjoyed wonderful views. We went to Clingman's Dome...which involved quite a steep hike. However, it was a high elevation and Very Foggy! We couldn't see anything from the viewing tower at the top. (It reminded us of taking friends up the Waitakeres in New Zealand to enjoy the foggy non-views!) The drive was gorgeous, though, and very refreshing!Barb and Roger took us on a hike to a waterfall during our visit with them in S. Carolina. (A much easier hike than to "the Dome"...besides which Roger had packed Twizzlers and Tootsie Rolls!) It was wonderful to spend time with them, see their home, get a look inside their new camping trailer, and have a tour of their garden.
After church, yesterday, Barb and Roger drove us to meet up with Brian and Crystal and their little girl, Hannah, at a park with a playground halfway between the two homes. (About 45 min. away.) We'd never met Hannah before and were thrilled to make her acquaintance!
Today we visited with 2 of Dan's cousins (whom he hadn't seen in 50 years, Dick and Jane), and Dick's wife, Gloria. We met them all at a bakery in N. Carolina for lunch. After a wonderful visit, good food, and big hugs, we drove through a town on which the Andy Griffith show was based. (We found out because while stopping at a store for water, we saw post cards with that info...Then, while paying for the water, we were thrilled to hear "Mayberry" accents from the people working behind the counter!)We're in a motel in Lynchberg, Virginia tonight...then on to Sean and Rebekah's house tomorrow.

This never occurred to me before, but are they called the smokey mountains because of the fog?
